ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SUPERINTENDENT TRACY REGARDING THE VILLA GROVE/HERITAGE ATHLETIC CO-OP:

On November 21st there will be a public meeting for the board of education to gather input regarding the VGH Athletic Co-op.  We all know how rumors abound at times and this topic is no exception.  I would like the public to know that I participate in numerous meetings and I have never attended any meeting of our board members that discussed terminating our current co-op so I do not understand where that rumor developed.  However, this public meeting will likely have the complete range of personal opinions from wanting a "total co-op" to wanting "no co-op".  So obviously, not everyone can obtain the perfect answer they desire.  Hopefully, this process will help determine a reasonable answer.

This meeting will be held on Monday, November 21st at 6:00 pm to begin the regular monthly board meeting.  People will be given an opportunity to express their opinions about the co-op which is now in its' fourth year.  We are anticipating numerous speakers so please try to limit your time to 5 minutes allowing others time also. Board protocol is that if you are present with others of the same opinion, please designate a spokesperson rather than repeating the same thoughts numerous times.  Following this time, no vote will be taken on the co-op during the remainder of the evening.  We have numerous other Regular Agenda items to attend to this month.

The Villa Grove Board of Education has developed many committees and an Athletic Committee is one of them.  They have met numerous times and spent multiple hours to study this issue.  They have met with a committee from Heritage to develop dialogue, share views, and try to develop a consensus.  Heritage had heard rumors as well and was tempted to cancel a meeting but they know our full board has not heard a recommendation to vote on either. Now, after our full school board hears from those views present, they will also hear from our Board Athletic Committee.  The entire full board will then have an opportunity to go home, digest this information, and reflect on all the perspectives that has been presented.  A Special Meeting will be set likely the week following Thanksgiving for the board to return and vote on the terms of the co-op renewal.  Heritage would need to do the same as our conference, opponents, and officials are all involved in such decisions and need answers.

Thank you for your time.
